Transforming Lives Through the N4G Initiative

On May 26, 2021, the Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Project (SEHP) in collaboration with the Ghana Export and Import Bank (EXIMBANK) and GIZ launched the N4G project to address, the lack of qualified staff needed in the fashion space in Ghana whilst empowering young and vulnerable girls with employable and entrepreneurial skills.

This involved female head porters and other young women aged between 16-24. The beneficiaries of the N4G project were mainly underprivileged females who have migrated from their home villages/districts into regional capitals in search of economic activities, with no prior work experience in fashion-related trades. The potential of the fashion, textile, garment, and beauty sectors presents the opportunity to groom these girls with skills that will set them up for an improved standard of living.

A total of 654 girls successfully completed the training out of 850 girls who were selected from 1,500 girls who registered for the project. These young girls graduated from African Fashion Incubator; Pistis Ghana, Sustainability Lab and Strokes and Lines, as Fashion Designers, Hairdressers, Make-Up Artists and milliners.

Through this initiative, participants received free vocational training, enabling them to secure positions in established fashion houses or start their own micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the fashion sector.

Beyond technical training, the project focused on women’s empowerment, raising awareness about successful female entrepreneurs and providing enterprise development skills to enhance employment prospects.
