Project Description

The Shea Empowerment Initiative places focus on empowering women in the northern parts of Ghana with employable skills in the shea value chain. In partnership with Ghana EXIM Bank (GEXIM), this initiative aims to train one thousand six hundred (1600) women in quality shea nut collection, and processing, as well as provide access to ready markets for finished shea products. 

So far, one thousand two hundred (1,200) women have been trained quality sheanut picking, shea kernel production and preservation. Safety tools including head pans, head lamps, hand gloves wellington boots and certificates of training have also been provided to these women.

As part of the initiative, four (4) shea processing factories located in the Northern, Savanah, Upper West and Upper East Regions of Ghana are being constructed and are at 95 percentile stage of completion.
